Hi Mama,
This month feels different, doesn’t it?
The high, buzzing energy of summer is starting to soften—with the intensifying heat. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve been feeling a real need to step back from all of the noise and pay attention to the simple, real things that are right in front of me.
I’ve been oiling my scalp and reading just for enjoyment again (nothing to “learn” from it, just to get lost). I’ve been keeping up with my favorite barre routine and sticking to a consistent morning wake-up time. I’ve been cleaning the house like it’s my day job—because it feels good to make my life smaller for a bit.
(I had a phone call with my mentor recently, and we both expressed how deeply we’ve enjoyed caulking random spaces in our houses lately. How odd?! 😅)
Late Summer is a funny little in-between season. In Chinese medicine, it’s the season of digestion—not just of food, but of everything we’ve been carrying. It’s when we settle, sort through, and decide what we’re keeping and what we’re done holding before the release of Fall.
If you’ve been feeling heavy, bloated, groggy in the mornings, craving sugar, or just off…that’s Late Summer speaking. Your digestion and rhythms need some extra attention.
So, this month, here’s my invitation:
Come back to your center.
Even a few simple anchors can make a big difference:
Wake up at the same time every day (yes, even on weekends)
Eat at regular times so your body knows what to expect
Make yourself an evening ritual that feels like an exhale—a warm foot soak, tea, 10 minutes of reading something you enjoy
That’s it. Real life. Not the online one.
Something warm and grounding
Here’s my favorite late-summer recipe right now:
Bone Broth Latte
1 cup warm bone broth
1 tsp ghee or butter
pinch of sea salt
pinch of cinnamon
(Optional: add collagen or a splash of cream if you want it richer)
Blend until frothy and sip slowly. It’s grounding, nourishing, and calms that late-summer “spin.”
Herbs I’m leaning on
Chen Pi (aged tangerine peel): Helps when digestion is heavy or sluggish. I throw a few drops into every cup of tea or broth.
Huang Qi (Astragalus): A gentle builder. If you’ve been feeling drained, it’s like a quiet helper in the background, strengthening your system without a big fuss.
Late Summer Grocery List
If you want some extra inspiration, I put together a simple Late Summer Grocery List to make eating for the season easy.
A word on support
This season of transition has reminded me of how powerful real connection and support are. Slowing down, feeling into what hasn’t been processed yet, and setting yourself up for upward and forward movement is so much easier with someone on your side.
When you work with me 1:1, we strip everything back and build something that actually works for you—your body, your routines, your real life.
And here’s the thing: money should never be the reason you don’t get support. Yes, my programs have prices, but if that price doesn’t work for you, we find another. We’ll have a real conversation about what’s doable, and if it’s a fit, we begin.
If you’ve been thinking about getting help, but haven’t been sure how or when—this is me saying: now is a good time.
That’s all for this month. Simple, slower. I hope you found something here that you needed. And if you want to reply and tell me where you’re at right now—I would love that. This work only matters if it lands in your body, mind, and soul.
Sending so much love,
Shelby
